I know who did it! I know Her name!

Dear Christian pilgrim, have you ever wondered why you are able to see the danger and horror of sin while many others don’t? Why you are always afraid to sin against God while many have no qualms about it? I know who made you like that: her name is Grace, the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And she has done much more! Not only has Grace turned your heart of stone to a heart of flesh that fears the Lord and grieves for sin, the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ has also made it possible for you to be cleansed of sin and be forgiven.

In 1 Corinthians 6 from verse 9, the apostle made a list of the sinners that will not inherit the kingdom of God. He wrote that, “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

And then in verse 11, he wrote that: “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

Again, in Ephesians 2, the apostle wrote that: As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!
– John Newton

Dear Christian pilgrim don’t think yourself superior to those languishing in sin without qualms. Instead thank God for the grace that saved you: But for the grace of God, you would be in their number.

Don’t also think yourself deserving of the grace of salvation: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.

Finally, don’t ever forget the blessings that Grace has bought for you: the cleansing and forgiveness of your sins, access to God’s throne of mercy in the time of prayer, and the privilege of fellowshipping with God as a child would enjoy the company of a loving and good father, the privilege of saying, Abba Father.

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!
– John Newton

Dear Lord, may we never cease to be amazed by Your Grace that saved us, cleanses us from all unrighteousness, and gives us the privilege of calling you Abba Father. May it please You that that Grace will reach all our loved ones who are still languishing in sin. In Jesus name. Amen.
