What do you call the One who gives your world all of its joys and brightness?

Sun of my soul, thou Savior dear,

it is not night if thou be near;

O may no earthborn cloud arise

to hide thee from thy servant’s eyes

– John Keble

Those whose lives have been turned into one bright and shining light would readily know why He is the SUN of the pilgrim’s soul. The sinner’s soul darkened by sin becomes a clean and healthy home of righteousness when the Sun shines into it.  The guilty condemned to death and eternal damnation receives the joyful gift of pardon when the Sun shines on him. The pilgrim who is perplexed with life and the many choices before him receives clarity when the Sun shines on his path. The one oppressed by sin and Satan is relieved of the heavy burdens of oppression and guilt when the Sun melts his burdens away. The pilgrim whose heart is made heavy by the death of a loved one or by sickness or the fear of death will smile once more if he would open his heart to the Sunshine.

Indeed, God is as the Sun that dispels the darkness. John 1:5. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Malachi 4:2. But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves.

He is the Sun that brightens the day. He is the Sun whose appearance is certain and sure no matter how long the dark night has been. He is the Sun whose benevolent rays stimulates growth.  He is the Sun from who whom nothing is hidden. He is the Sun that gives life and light. He is the Sun that sets lukewarm souls on fire. He is the Sun that clears the day for the fellowship of brethren.

And He is not only Sunlight to your soul, He is also your savior who loves you dearly. When He chased the darkness away, He also saved you from the power of the darkness forever.  When He made you fruitful, He also saved you from the curse of fruitlessness. When He set your soul aflame for His worship, He also saved you from the shackles of the worship of idols and Satan. He is the light that saves. He is the Sun of the pilgrim’s soul and his dear saviour. The pilgrim who opens his heart to this Sun and loving Saviour is blessed beyond measure. Be that pilgrim. Be the pilgrim who opens his heart, her heart to this Sun and loving Saviour.

Sun of my soul, thou Savior dear,

it is not night if thou be near;

O may no earthborn cloud arise

to hide thee from thy servant’s eyes

– John Keble
