Word of the Day – SKEPTICAL

Welcome to Word of the Day on GospelBells Radio. Today, the word under the spotlight is, “Skeptical.”

To be skeptical is to doubt, to question, or to withhold trust. Sometimes skepticism arises from pride or fear and can close our hearts to God’s truth. But not all questioning is wrong—Scripture also commends discernment, which is the Spirit-led ability to test and approve what is true.

Think of Thomas. In John 20:25, he declared, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were, I will not believe.” His skepticism shut the door to faith—until Jesus revealed Himself. Then Thomas cried out, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). His skepticism melted into conviction.

Contrast that with the Berean Jews in Acts 17:11, who examined the Scriptures daily to see if Paul’s message was true. They were not skeptical in unbelief; they were discerning in faith. Skepticism tears down, but discernment builds up.

The lesson? It’s natural to have doubts, but don’t let skepticism harden your heart. Instead, turn your questions toward God with humility, and let His Word and Spirit guide you into truth.

Prayer:
Lord, when I am skeptical, remind me of Your faithfulness. Teach me to trade skepticism for Spirit-led discernment, so that I may walk in truth and trust. Amen.

Now, let’s put this word into action. Can you make a Christian-themed sentence with the word, “Skeptical?” Here’s mine: “At first I was skeptical of God’s promises, but His Word and Spirit gave me discernment to believe.” Now, make your own Christian-themed sentence with the word, Skeptical in the comments section. We’ll be looking out for it! Thank you for listening. I’m Dewunmi Afolabi-Ajani, wishing you a day filled with trust and discernment in Christ.
