Welcome to Word of the Day on GospelBells Radio. Today, the word under the spotlight is “Service.”
Service refers to the act of willingly giving oneself for the good of others.
In simple terms, it means using what God has given you—time, strength, gifts, and resources—to bless others for His glory.
In Scripture, service is not optional; it is the shape of the Christian life. Jesus said in Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” The greatest example of service is Christ Himself, who knelt to wash His disciples’ feet and went on to lay down His life. Paul echoes this call in Galatians 5:13: “Serve one another humbly in love.”
Service reminds us that greatness in God’s kingdom is measured differently. It is not about status, recognition, or power, but about humility, love, and faithfulness. True service flows from gratitude, not compulsion. We serve not to earn God’s favor, but because we have already received it.
This word challenges us to look beyond ourselves. Every act of service—seen or unseen—becomes an offering to God when done in love. In serving others, we reflect the heart of Christ and participate in His ongoing work in the world.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for serving me with perfect love. Teach me to serve others with humility, joy, and faithfulness, following Your example each day. Amen.
