Today, the word under the spotlight is “Propitiation.”

Propitiation refers to the act by which God’s righteous wrath against sin is satisfied through a sacrifice.
In simple terms, it means God’s justice has been fully met, so sinners can be forgiven without God ceasing to be just.

Scripture places propitiation at the very heart of the gospel. Romans 3:25 tells us that “God presented Christ as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith.” Likewise, 1 John 2:2 declares, “He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” On the cross, Jesus did not merely show love; He absorbed judgment. God’s holy anger against sin was not ignored or postponed—it was fully satisfied in Christ.

Propitiation reminds us that salvation is costly grace. Forgiveness did not come by overlooking sin, but by dealing with it decisively. At the cross, mercy and justice met: God remained righteous, and sinners were redeemed. Because Christ has borne the wrath we deserved, there is now “no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

This truth brings deep assurance. Our forgiveness rests not on fluctuating feelings or moral performance, but on a finished work that can never be undone.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for bearing the judgment my sin deserved. Help me live in humility, gratitude, and confidence, resting in Your finished work of propitiation. Amen.

Now, let’s put this word into action. Can you make a Christian-themed sentence using propitiation?
Here’s mine: “Because of Christ’s propitiation, I no longer fear God’s wrath but rest in His grace.”

Now it’s your turn — share your sentence in the comments.

Thank you for listening. I’m Dewunmi Afolabi-Ajani for GospelBells Radio.
