Word of the Day: Perspective

Welcome to Word of the Day on GospelBells Radio. Today, the word under the spotlight is Perspective.

(Continue reading or listen as read on the radio by Dewunmi Afolabi Ajani)

In a world clouded by fleeting worries and shifting opinions, perspective is a gift of clarity. It means the way we view life—our lens for understanding reality, shaped by where we stand and what we value. A godly perspective lifts our eyes above the temporal to the eternal, filling us with gratitude for God’s mercies and sparing grace.

Scripture calls us to this higher view: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Col. 3:2). When trials loom large, David reminds us, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” (Ps. 27:1). A perspective of gratitude transforms our hearts, as we give thanks “in all circumstances” (1 Thess. 5:18), not only for what we have—blessings like breath, provision, and salvation—but also for the horrible things that could have been, yet were held back by God’s sovereign hand. Through Christ, we see suffering as a path to glory and death yielding to resurrection life (Rom. 8:18).

As Reformed believers, we know our perspective is renewed by grace. The Spirit reshapes our minds to view all things through God’s unchanging Word, stirring gratitude for His daily mercies and the countless dangers He has kept at bay. Whether facing hardship or blessing, we can say with Paul, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Phil. 1:21). This perspective steadies us, turning our hearts to thankfulness for what is and what might have been, all under God’s faithful care.

So today, let’s cultivate a Christ-centered perspective of gratitude. Thank God for His gifts—seen and unseen—and for the perils He has spared you from. How is He reshaping your view today?

Prayer: Faithful God, thank You for Your boundless mercies and for sparing us from countless trials. Renew our perspective by Your Spirit, filling us with gratitude for what we have and what You’ve kept away, that we may live with eternity in view. Amen.

Now, let’s put this word into action. Can you make a Christian-themed sentence with the word perspective? Here’s mine: “Her perspective of gratitude, rooted in Christ’s saving grace, turned every trial into thanksgiving for God’s provision and protection.” Now, make your own Christian-themed sentence with the word perspective in the comments section. We’ll be looking out for it!
