Word of the Day | IMPASSIBILITY

Welcome to Word of the Day on GospelBells Radio.
Today, the word under the spotlight is Impassibility.

(Continue reading or listen as presented on the radio by Dewunmi Afolabi-Ajani)

Impassibility means that God does not experience emotional changes as humans do — His love, joy, mercy, and justice remain constant and unchanging.

In simple terms, impassibility teaches us that while God cares deeply for us, His emotions are never unstable or reactive. He is not swept away by moods, pain, or surprise. His compassion is perfect and steady — not the rise and fall of feelings, but the eternal pulse of divine love.

This doctrine is rooted in verses like Malachi 3:6, where God declares, “I the Lord do not change,” and James 1:17, which says, “The Father of lights… does not change like shifting shadows.” In a world of instability, this truth anchors us: the God who loved you yesterday loves you the same today — fully, faithfully, forever.

Early church fathers like Athanasius and Augustine emphasized this truth to remind believers that God’s unchanging nature is our assurance. His impassibility doesn’t mean He is indifferent — it means His care is never fickle. When He comforts the brokenhearted, it’s not a reaction; it’s a reflection of His eternal character.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Teach me to rest in Your unchanging love, and to trust that Your compassion is not moved by circumstance but grounded in Your perfect nature. Amen.

Now, let’s put this word into action. Can you make a Christian-themed sentence using the word impassibility?
Here’s mine: “Because of God’s impassibility, I can trust that His love for me will never waver, no matter how much my emotions do.”

Now it’s your turn — share your sentence in the comments on our GospelBells Radio website or X page. We’ll be looking out for it!

Remember: God’s impassibility is not distance — it’s divine dependability. His love doesn’t flicker; it burns eternally.
