Welcome to Word of the Day on GospelBells Radio. Today, the word under the spotlight is “Christus Victor.”

Christus Victor is a Latin phrase meaning “Christ the Victor” or “Christ the Conqueror.”
It describes the beautiful truth that through His death and resurrection, Jesus triumphed over sin, death, and the powers of evil.

When Christ rose from the grave, He didn’t just escape death — He defeated it. As Colossians 2:15 declares, “Having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” The cross, which seemed like defeat, became the battlefield of ultimate victory.

In the Christus Victor view of salvation, Jesus is not merely the victim of the cross but the victor through it. His resurrection is heaven’s announcement that every dark force — sin, Satan, and death itself — has been decisively overcome. As the early church proclaimed in their Easter hymns, “Christ is risen, trampling down death by death!”

This truth reminds us that the Christian life is not lived from fear but from victory. We fight not for victory, but fromvictory — standing in the triumph Christ has already won.

Now, let’s put this word into action. Can you make a Christian-themed sentence using the phrase Christus Victor?
Here’s mine: “Because of Christus Victor, I no longer fight for victory — I live in the victory already won by Christ.”

Now it’s your turn — share your sentence in the comments on our GospelBells Radio website or X page. We’ll be looking out for it!

Remember: The cross was not the end — it was the triumph. Christ is not defeated; He is Victor forever.
