Word of the Day: ASEITY

  • by

Welcome to Word of the Day on GospelBells Radio. Today, the word under the spotlight is

“Aseity.”

(Continue reading or listen as presented on the radio by Dewunmi Afolabi-Ajani)

Aseity refers to God’s self-existence and self-sufficiency.
In simple terms, it means God depends on no one and nothing for His life, power, or being — He is the uncreated Creator, the One who simply is.

When God revealed His name to Moses, He said, “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14). This is aseity in a sentence: God does not derive His existence from any source; He is the source. Paul echoes this in Acts 17:25: “He is not served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.”

Aseity reminds us of a breathtaking truth:
God is utterly independent — and we are utterly dependent.
We change, He remains. We grow weary, He never fades. We need rest, renewal, and resources; He is the fountain from which all life flows.

And here is the wonder of grace: the God who needs nothing chooses to love us. The God who is perfectly complete in Himself invites us to find our completeness in Him. His aseity is not cold distance — it is the very reason His love is steadfast, unchanging, and reliable.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are the self-existent, all-sufficient God. Teach me to rest not in my own strength but in Your unchanging, inexhaustible life. Amen.

Now, let’s put this word into action. Can you make a Christian-themed sentence using the word aseity? Here’s mine:
“Because God’s aseity never changes, I can trust Him completely in every season.”

Now it’s your turn — share your sentence in the comments on our GospelBells Radio website or X page. We’ll be looking out for it!
