Today, the word under the spotlight is “Abba.”

Abba is an Aramaic word that means Father—but with a sense of intimacy, trust, and closeness.
In simple terms, it is the cry of a child to a loving Father.

In Scripture, Abba expresses the deep, personal relationship believers have with God through Christ. In Mark 14:36, Jesus prayed, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You.” And in Romans 8:15, Paul writes, “You did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’”

Abba reminds us that Christianity is not merely a religion of rules, but a relationship of love. Through Christ, we are not just servants or followers—we are sons and daughters who can approach God with confidence, affection, and honesty. To call God Abba is to rest in His care, to trust His wisdom, and to know that we are deeply known and dearly loved.

This word reshapes prayer. We do not come to a distant deity, but to a tender Father who delights in hearing His children’s voices.

Prayer:
Abba Father, thank You for welcoming me into Your family. Teach me to trust You as a child trusts a loving parent, and to live each day in the security of Your love. Amen.

Now, let’s put this word into action. Can you make a Christian-themed sentence using Abba?
Here’s mine: “When I pray, I call God Abba, knowing I am heard, loved, and held by Him.”

Now it’s your turn — share your sentence in the comments.

Thank you for listening. I’m Dewunmi Afolabi-Ajani for GospelBells Radio.
