Welcome to Word of the Day on GospelBells Radio. Today, the word under the spotlight is “Regeneration.”
(Continue reading or listen as presented on the radio by Dewunmi Afolabi-Ajani)
Regeneration means the spiritual new birth that God works in the heart — the moment when He brings a sinner from spiritual death to spiritual life.
In simple terms, it is God making a person new from the inside out.
Jesus explained this to Nicodemus when He said, “You must be born again” (John 3:7). This new birth is not self-improvement, moral polishing, or turning over a new leaf. It is the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit, who gives new desires, new affections, and a new heart that longs for God. As Titus 3:5 puts it, we are saved through “the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.”
Regeneration is the miracle behind every true conversion. Before it, the heart resists God; after it, the heart delights in Him. Before it, the gospel seems foolish; after it, it becomes life and treasure. It is the quiet but powerful moment when God says, “Live,” and the soul awakens.
And here is the comfort: the God who begins this new life also sustains it. The regenerated heart may stumble, but it cannot go back to death. The Spirit who gives life also keeps life.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the miracle of regeneration. Help me cherish the new heart You have given me and walk daily in the life and power of Your Spirit. Amen.
Now, let’s put this word into action. Can you make a Christian-themed sentence using the word regeneration? Here’s mine:
“Regeneration is the doorway through which a sinner steps into the joy of new life in Christ.”
Now it’s your turn — share your sentence in the comments on our GospelBells Radio website or X page. We’ll be looking out for it!
