DON’T BE TRICKED INTO FEELING UNWELCOME.
“There is no spot in thee.” – Song of Solomon 4:7
After declaring His Church completely beautiful, our Lord strengthens His praise with a precious negative: “There is no spot in you.” It is as though the Bridegroom anticipates that a critical world might claim He praised only her attractive qualities while ignoring anything flawed or defiled. So He concludes by affirming that she is wholly and entirely beautiful—utterly without blemish.
A spot is only a small imperfection, the tiniest mark that can mar beauty. Yet even from this smallest defect the believer is freed in Christ’s sight. If He had said, “There is no terrible scar, no hideous deformity, no deadly wound,” we would already be amazed. But when He declares that she is free from even the slightest speck, then all greater stains are included—and our sense of wonder deepens.
If He had only promised that our spots would be removed in the future, we would still have endless cause for rejoicing. But when He says that the work is already done, how can we hold back profound joy and delight? O my soul, here is rich food for you—eat and be satisfied with royal delicacies.
Christ Jesus has no quarrel with His bride. Though she often strays from Him and grieves His Holy Spirit, He never allows her failings to diminish His love. He may correct her, but always gently and with the kindest intentions—still calling her “my love” even in His rebuke. He keeps no record of our foolishness; He does not brood over our failures. He forgives—and loves us just as fully after our sin as before it.

How grateful we should be that this is so! For if Jesus were as sensitive to wrongs as we often are, how could He have fellowship with us at all? Many times a believer becomes upset with the Lord over some small twist of His providence, but our gracious Bridegroom knows our childish hearts too well to take offense at our poor behaviour.
