Members One of Another: ReflectionsTuesday with Pastor Ayo Agunloye – Sept. 23 2025

  • by

To fully immerse yourself in the powerful message delivered by Pastor Ayo Agunloye during the ReflectionsTuesday programme on GospelBells Radio, we invite you to listen to the full audio of the programme embedded below. This insightful session, aired on September 23, 2025, at 7 AM, explores the theme “Members One of Another,” offering profound lessons on church membership and Christian unity.

In his ReflectionsTuesday message on GospelBells Radio, Pastor Ayo Agunloye, pastor of New Creation Baptist Church in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and publisher of Your Potter’s House devotional, delivered a compelling message rooted in Romans 12:1–5. Titled “Members One of Another,” the message emphasized the interconnectedness and interdependence of believers within the body of Christ. Pastor Agunloye urged listeners to embrace their roles as active, contributing members of their local churches, highlighting the importance of mutual ownership, humility, and service in fostering a vibrant Christian community.

Key Themes from Pastor Agunloye’s Message

  1. Mutual Ownership in the Body of Christ
Drawing from Romans 12:5, Pastor Agunloye stressed that believers are “members one of another,” meaning no one—whether pastor, prophet, or layperson—owns another exclusively. He cautioned against the mindset of leaders claiming ownership over church members, emphasizing that only Jesus Christ, who paid the ultimate price for the church, holds exclusive ownership. Pastors and members alike are sheep under the Great Shepherd, Jesus, and each person’s contribution is vital to the health of the body.
  2. The Dangers of Inactivity
Using vivid metaphors, such as a tick draining a dog’s blood or a body part refusing to function, Pastor Agunloye illustrated how withholding one’s gifts or contributions harms the entire church. He likened inactive members to organs that, by refusing to work, contribute to the body’s death—and their own. Every believer, he urged, must actively use their God-given gifts to strengthen the church, whether through prayer, service, or sharing scripture.
  3. No Perfect Church
Addressing common complaints about churches—such as hypocrisy or lack of love—Pastor Agunloye reminded listeners that no local congregation is perfect. He encouraged believers not to abandon their churches but to act as “salt” and “light,” fostering revival through prayer and positive contributions. He emphasized that leaving a church due to its flaws often reflects a misunderstanding of one’s role in the body of Christ.
  4. Interdependence and Humility
The sermon highlighted the interdependence of church members, comparing the church to a human body where each part relies on others to function. Pastors depend on members’ prayers and support just as members rely on pastoral guidance. Pastor Agunloye called for humility, urging believers not to think of themselves more highly than they ought (Romans 12:3) or compare their contributions with others. Instead, they should focus on personal growth and fulfilling their unique roles.
  5. Freedom in Membership
Pastor Agunloye addressed the issue of possessiveness over church members, recounting stories of pastors who felt betrayed when members left for other congregations. He stressed that believers are on their own spiritual journeys, and no one should be tied down or cursed for moving to another church. Ministers, he noted, should provide “fresh bread” (new, relevant teachings) rather than “stale leftovers” and trust God to reward their service, not the members they serve.

A Call to Action

Pastor Agunloye’s message is a clarion call for believers to actively participate in their local churches, recognizing their interconnectedness and shared purpose in Christ. He challenged listeners to pray for their leaders, contribute their gifts, and remain committed to their congregations despite imperfections. By doing so, they not only strengthen the church but also fulfill their own purpose within the body of Christ.

For those inspired to dive deeper into these teachings, Pastor Agunloye recommended reading I Am a Church Member by Thom S. Rainer, a book his church is currently studying to better understand fruitful church membership.
