JEHOVAH-RAPHA

“I have seen his ways, and will heal him.” Isaiah 57:18

It is God’s exclusive prerogative to heal spiritual disease. Physical sickness may sometimes be treated through human skill and medicine, but even then, the glory belongs to God, who gives power to medicine and strength to the human body to recover. 

But when it comes to spiritual sickness, the healing belongs to God alone. He claims this right for Himself: “I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal.” One of His covenant names is Jehovah-Rapha, “The Lord who heals you.” His promise, “I will heal you of your wounds,”could never come from human lips, but only from the eternal God Himself.

That is why the psalmist cried out: “O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled,” and again, “Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.” This is also why the godly lift their praise to the Lord, declaring, “He heals all our diseases.” He who created man can also restore him. The One who first shaped our nature can recreate it anew. What deep comfort there is in knowing that in Jesus “all the fullness of the Godhead dwells in bodily form!”

My soul, whatever your disease may be, this great Physician can heal you. Since He is God, there can be no limit to His power. So come—bring the blind eye of darkened understanding, the crippled foot of weakened resolve, the withered hand of faint faith, the fever of an angry spirit, or the chills of despair. Come just as you are, for He who is God is fully able to restore you.No one can resist the healing virtue that flows from our Lord Jesus. Even legions of demons have had to confess His power, and never once has He been defeated. Every soul He has taken on as His patient has been healed, and all who trust in Him will be healed still. And you, my friend—you too shall be among them, if only you will rest yourself in Him tonight.
