1️⃣ Chapters 1–11: The “Primeval History”

These opening 11 chapters cover the earliest history of the world, painting a sweeping portrait of God’s work with all humanity.
They include:

  • Creation
  • The Fall
  • Cain and Abel
  • The Flood
  • The Tower of Babel

These stories are universal in scope, explaining how the world began, how sin entered, and why human cultures spread across the earth.

2️⃣ Chapters 12–50: The “Patriarchal History”

Beginning in chapter 12, Genesis narrows its focus from all humanity to one family through whom God intends to bless the earth.
This section follows the lives of:

  • Abraham
  • Isaac
  • Jacob
  • Joseph

Here, God moves from universal dealings to a covenantal relationship, shaping the family that will become the nation of Israel.
