Did you know there’s a striking analogy about faith told through the story of a man on a mountain?
(Continue reading or listen as presented on the radio by Adetutu Awonuga)
The story goes that a man slipped and fell off a cliff. By chance, he managed to grab hold of a small shrub sticking out of the rock. Dangling in fear, he cried out: “God, if You exist, please help me!”
A voice came from above: “I exist. Let go of the shrub, and I will catch you.”
The man paused and then shouted, “Is there anyone else up there?”
This story makes us smile, but it cuts deep. Isn’t that how we often act? We pray, asking God to help us, yet when His answer requires trust, surrender, or letting go of our own security, we hesitate.
Proverbs 3:5–6 gives the clear lesson: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Subscribe NowFaith means taking God at His word, even when our grip feels safer than His promise. Just like Peter had to step out of the boat to walk on water (Matthew 14:29), we too must release our “shrubs” and trust that God’s arms are strong enough to hold us.
So, what shrub are you clinging to today? Hear His voice: “I exist. Let go, and trust Me.”
