“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” —Jeremiah 33:3

OPEN THE WINDOW

Different translations render this promise in various ways: “great and fortified things,” or “great and hidden things.” Either way, it speaks of treasures in the Christian life that are not easily discovered. Some blessings—like repentance, faith, joy, and hope—are shared by all God’s children. But there is also a higher level of communion, deep joy, and conscious union with Christ that not every believer enters. Not all rest their head on Jesus’ chest like John, or are caught up to heaven in visions like Paul.

There are heights of spiritual experience that no human wisdom or intellect can attain—God alone can take us there. And the “chariot” He uses is prevailing prayer. Through prayer that wrestles and refuses to let go, believers, like Jacob, find power with God. Through prayer, Elijah called down rain on Carmel. Through prayer, we glimpse the promised inheritance from Pisgah’s heights. Through prayer, we are transformed on Tabor, shining with Christ’s likeness.
