Baddy of Lagos Sparks Conversation Between a Christian and an Atheist

  • by

Popular Nigerian social media sensation, Baddy of Lagos, whose real name is David Obadiah, has once again got everyone talking on X (formerly Twitter) – but this time, it’s not just about his hilarious skits or that epic bow leg surgery crowdfunding that raised over ₦22 million with shoutouts from big names like Davido. No, this one’s deeper, stirring up an insightful exchange on the relationship between God and science. Sometimes you come across a perfect social media take that perfectly captures a handy truth for future engagements with atheists and their friends. This is one of such!

It all started when Baddy shared a heartfelt post from his hospital bed, moments before going under the knife for his long-awaited corrective surgery. Accompanied by a touching photo and video showing him all bandaged up, with his loving mum by his side holding his hand, he wrote: “I want to say thank you to my mum for being there for me all through the journey of life and fasting and praying for this to be a success.. God bless you iya Oyinda.” The post, which you can check out here, was pure gratitude, crediting prayers and family support for getting him to this milestone.

But hold up – one cheeky (possibly atheist) responder, X user @Tcastolo_ (aka Blackhole), couldn’t help but post this : “Science once again defeats Gods inventions.” Ouch! It was like a subtle shade to all the believers out there, basically saying, “Hey, it’s the doctors and tech saving the day, not the prayers.” The comment, viewable here, lit up the replies faster than you can say “controversy.”

Not one to let that slide, another user, Victor King-Olubiyi (@KingVicx), came through with the ultimate clapback, serving wisdom and wit in one go: “I’m going to hold your hand when I tell you this: Science is indeed God’s invention. He had science in mind when He gave man a brain and the ability to imagine, think and create.” Mic drop! See the full response here. It’s the kind of comeback that has you nodding in agreement while scrolling through the thread – faith and science, besties not enemies, and both from God, the Giver of All!

What do you think? Is Victor King-Olubiyi right? Is science prayer’s enemy or is it a gift from God, the fullness of which we can receive by praying? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
