“And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him.” —Mark 3:13

Here we see the sovereignty of Christ. Some may grow restless or frustrated because they are not called to prominent positions in ministry. But, dear reader, let your joy be in this: Jesus calls whom He wills. If He appoints me only as a doorkeeper in His house, I will gladly bless Him for the grace of being allowed to serve at all.

The call of Christ always comes from above. Jesus stood on the mountain—high above the world in holiness, zeal, love, and power. And those He calls must also climb the mountain to be with Him. They must rise to His level through communion with Him. Perhaps they will never reach academic honors or earthly recognition, but like Moses, they must go up into the mountain of God to speak with the unseen Lord. Only then will they be prepared to proclaim the gospel of peace.

Jesus Himself often withdrew to the mountain to commune with the Father. If we would bring blessing to others, we too must seek that same fellowship. It is no wonder the apostles came down clothed with power after being with Christ on the mount. This morning, let us also seek to ascend the mountain of communion, so that we may be equipped for the work He has set before us.

Let us not face people today until we have first looked upon Jesus. Time spent with Him always yields eternal profit. Then, like the apostles, we too shall overcome spiritual darkness and work for His glory, strengthened with the power that only Christ can give. It is useless to go to battle without heavenly weapons. We must see Jesus—this is essential. So let us remain at the mercy seat until He reveals Himself to us in a way He does not reveal Himself to the world, until we too can say, “We were with Him on the holy mountain.”

✨ Reflection Takeaway:
Before you face the world, climb the mountain to meet with Jesus. Power for service always flows from communion with Him.
