On Apostle Arome Osayi’s Alleged Angelic Encounter and Social Media Reactions
And it’s good morning to you once again. It’s Friday, the 27th of March 2026. The programme is On the Lord’s Side, Christian perspectives on news and current events.

This video has been making the rounds on Twitter in particular, and I suspect on some other social media platforms as well. You know that the state of technology now allows people to make clips out of sermons delivered by Christian preachers and to call attention to things considered incongruous or sometimes labelled by some in the culture as outright falsehood.
And some things, indeed, when you hear them, appear a bit out of place. It is not wrong for those of us on the Lord’s side, people who are called to be circumspect in this world, people who are called to be like the Berean Christians, when we hear things, especially when the culture is debating them, to ask whether they align fully with the teachings of the Bible.
I want you to listen to this clip attributed to a well-known preacher in Nigeria, Apostle Arome Osayi. Before I read the accompanying caption, listen to it. This is the preacher relating what happened to him by the power of the Holy Spirit:
“He drew my spirit out of my body. And as my spirit was moving, I was seeing where it was going. I was doing this prayer in my sitting room in Makurdi, and my spirit man was travelling and went to a certain location that I’ve never been to before.
Then I asked the angel that was my tour guide, ‘Where are we?’ He said, ‘This is Makurdi.’ I said, ‘No, I was born here. I know every part of this city. I don’t know this place.’
The place we went to, I was awake, I’m not sleeping, had dry leaves on the floor, very dirty. I said, ‘Why are we here?’ Then he took a piece of stick and shifted some of the dry leaves.
If I know anything at all, in my 16 years of labouring in the oil industry, I know crude oil when I see it. When he shifted the dry leaves, I saw crude oil.
Then he told me, ‘This is the reserve. This is the financial reserve I kept for this ministry… That was how we built that building, 1.6 billion naira.’”
There you have it, a testimony or account of an encounter. According to the caption:
“As I was praying, I saw an angel walk into the room, gave me a handshake, drew my spirit out of my body, and took me on a city tour to show me a hidden crude oil location.”
Social media reactions varied widely. Some defended it as a genuine spiritual experience, while others criticised or mocked it. One comment suggested the vision was figurative rather than literal, comparing it to symbolic dreams in Scripture.
The first point is that it is not wrong for Christians to engage with such clips and examine whether they align with Scripture. Christians should not be shamed for testing teachings.
The Berean Christians did not doubt Paul; they verified him. They listened, then went back to the Scriptures to confirm what he said. No Christian should be vilified for doing the same.
Scripture also instructs us in 1 John 4:1 to test every spirit. When we hear extraordinary claims, such as angels giving handshakes, conducting city tours, or revealing natural resources, we must ask whether there is biblical precedent.
In Scripture, angels appear as messengers delivering God’s word, often beginning with “Do not be afraid.” There is no precedent for casual interactions like handshakes or guided tours revealing material wealth.
Therefore, the most reasonable interpretation of such an account may be figurative rather than literal.
The key takeaway is this: it is good and edifying for Christians to examine teachings and ensure they are consistent with Scripture.
On Vast Wealth, Death, and Family Disputes
It is now reported that a man identified as Abbott Wigwe owned 106 properties in the heart of London. To put this into perspective, Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund does not have that many properties in that area. Even some of the wealthiest individuals in the world do not.
Following his death, there were disputes among family members regarding the management of his estate. This is often the case with vast wealth, the greater the wealth, the higher the likelihood of disputes after death.
A similar case involves the late former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala. Legal disputes among family members have brought to light an extensive portfolio of properties across Nigeria and abroad.
The common thread is that both men are now gone. This is not mockery, it is a reminder that we will all pass through this stage of life.
It brings to mind the words of Scripture: “What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?”
Wealth is not condemned in itself. The Bible acknowledges the value of leaving an inheritance. However, Solomon, who had immense wealth concluded that all is “vanity of vanities.”
The lesson is clear: fear God and keep His commandments. Wealth without reverence for God is ultimately meaningless.
On Assisted Suicide and Maternal Death: The Pain of a Fallen World
Lastly, two heartbreaking stories.
A 25-year-old paraplegic woman in Barcelona died by assisted suicide after winning a legal battle against her parents for the right to end her life. She had suffered gang rape twice, became paralysed after a fall, and lived with chronic pain and depression.
While her decision is not consistent with Christian teaching, her pain cannot be dismissed. She suffered deeply, and her story calls for compassion and prayer.
The second case is that of a woman who died after giving birth to quintuplets at Murtala Mohammed Hospital. She experienced severe bleeding after delivery, and all efforts to save her failed.
These stories remind us of the horrors in a fallen world—pain, suffering, loss, and tragedy.
We must pray for those in distress, those battling depression, those in chronic pain, and families facing unimaginable loss. We must also pray for the healthcare system and for diligence among medical professionals.
Above all, we must remain thankful for the life and health we have, while remembering others in prayer.
May the Lord comfort those who are hurting and deliver those in affliction, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
