“Remember the poor.” – Galatians 2:10

  • by

Why does God allow many of His children to be poor? He could make them all rich if He chose. He could place wealth at their doors, provide them with steady abundance, or supply all their needs in extraordinary ways—just as He once fed Israel in the wilderness. There is no lack of power or resources with Him, for “the cattle on a thousand hills are His.” He could move the hearts of the wealthy and powerful to provide for His people.

Yet He does not always do so. Instead, He allows some of His children to experience need, to live in obscurity, and to endure hardship. Why? Because in His wisdom, He sees that it is best.

One reason is this: to give those of us who have enough an opportunity to show our love for Christ. We express our love in prayer and in praise—but if there were no needy believers, we would miss the precious privilege of showing that love in practical ways. By caring for those in need, we prove that our love is not merely in words, but in action and truth.

If we truly love Christ, we will care for those He loves. Those who are dear to Him will be dear to us. Therefore, let us not see helping the poor as a burden, but as a privilege—especially when they belong to the household of faith.

Let us remember the words of the Lord Jesus:
“Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”

What a powerful encouragement! What we do for His people, Christ receives as done to Himself.

Let this move us to give generously, serve willingly, and love sincerely—with open hands and compassionate hearts.
