If we can truly take hold of these words by faith, we hold in our hands a weapon that conquers all. What doubt can survive against this two-edged sword? What fear will not fall wounded before this arrow from the bow of God’s covenant? The struggles of life, the pain of death, the corruption within, the snares without, the trials above, and the temptations beneath—all of these will seem light when we take refuge in the stronghold of “He has said.”
Whether we seek peace in quiet moments or strength in times of battle, “He has said” must be our daily refuge. This shows us the priceless value of searching the Scriptures. There may be a promise in God’s Word that perfectly fits your situation, but if you don’t know it, you miss its comfort. It’s like being locked in a dungeon with a key nearby that could open the door to freedom—but if you never search for it, you remain a prisoner though liberty is so close.
In the same way, there may be a powerful medicine in the great pharmacy of Scripture, but you remain sick unless you search the Word to discover what “He has said.” Shouldn’t you, beyond simply reading the Bible, also fill your memory with God’s promises? You remember the sayings of great men, you treasure the verses of famous poets—shouldn’t you be even more rich in the knowledge of God’s words, so that you can call them to mind when facing doubts or difficulties?
Since “He has said” is the source of all wisdom and the fountain of all comfort, let it dwell richly in you, like “a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” Then you will grow strong, joyful, and healthy in the life of God.
