“The love of the Lord.” – Hosea 3:1

  • by

Believer, look back over your life and consider the way the Lord your God has led you through the wilderness. Think of how He has fed you and clothed you day by day—how patiently He has endured your failures, how He has borne with your complaints, and how He has forgiven your longing for the old comforts of Egypt. Remember how He opened the rock to supply your need, and how He fed you with manna from heaven.

Think, too, of how His grace has been sufficient for you in every trouble; how the blood of Christ has secured your pardon for every sin; how His rod and His staff have comforted you. When you have reflected on the Lord’s love in the past, let faith then look ahead to His love in the future. Christ’s covenant and His blood promise more than yesterday alone. He who has loved you and forgiven you will never stop loving you or forgiving you. He is the Alpha and the Omega—the First and the Last.

Therefore, when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you need not fear any evil, for He is with you. When you stand in the cold waters of the Jordan, you do not need to be afraid, for even death cannot separate you from His love. And when you enter the deep mysteries of eternity, you need not tremble, for you can say with confidence:

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Now, O soul, is your love not refreshed? Does this not stir your heart to love Jesus more? Does not a journey through the boundless expanse of His love set your heart on fire and draw you to delight yourself in the Lord your God? Surely, as we meditate on the love of the Lord, our hearts burn within us, and we long to love Him more.
