OPEN LETTER TO ANTHONY JOSHUA

  • by

Dear @anthonyjoshua

Grace and peace to you.

I write this letter with respect, sympathy, and a deep sense of gratitude for a question you recently posed to the world—a question that is far more profound than many may realise:

“Can you have a deep relationship with God and make it to heaven without religion?”

In an age that often runs from eternal questions, your willingness to pause, reflect, and ask such a thing is not weakness; it is wisdom.

The Scriptures say, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” But the wise man numbers his days and turns his thoughts toward eternity. To think seriously about God, about heaven, and about life beyond this one is not foolishness—it is clarity. And to that extent alone, your question deserves commendation, not mockery.

It is also impossible to ignore the context in which your question arose. You asked it in the shadow of grief, loss, and a brush with mortality. Scripture teaches us that God often uses sorrow, crisis, and judgment—not as cruelty, but as mercy—to awaken the human conscience. “When Your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.” If these painful circumstances have stirred eternal questions in your heart, that itself is a gracious work of God.

Your question also reveals something deeply encouraging: you already recognise that heaven is not merely a reward for good behaviour, nor a destination reached by moral effort alone. You intuitively understand that heaven requires a relationship with God. That insight aligns perfectly with the biblical witness. The Bible is uncompromising here: “By the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.” Our best righteousness, standing alone, cannot reconcile us to a holy God.

So let us answer your question plainly and honestly.

No human being—no matter how disciplined, moral, or sincere—can have a relationship with God or gain entrance into heaven on their own.
