The Story of the Spare Tyre Faith

Welcome to the Did You Know? Series on GospelBellsRadio. Did you know that many people treat God the same way they treat the spare tire in their car?

(Continue reading or listen as presented on the radio by Adetutu Awonuga)

There was a man who had driven his car for months—smooth rides, regular servicing, full tank, everything seemed perfect. But there was one thing he had never touched: the spare tire compartment.

Then came that day—his tire burst in the middle of nowhere. He pulled over, frustrated but confident. “At least I have a spare,” he muttered.

But when he opened the compartment… it was rusty. The cover was stiff. The bolts were jammed. And when he finally pulled the tire out—it was flat.

Hours later, stranded and weary, he realized something:
He had a backup all along, but never a relationship with it.

Did you know that’s exactly how many of us relate with God?
We keep Him tucked away—out of sight, out of mind—until life’s tire bursts. Then, in panic, we rush to the “compartment” of prayer, only to find that our faith has grown rusty, our trust flat, our hearts unresponsive.

Yet God never intended to be your emergency backup.
He wants to steer the wheel daily.

Proverbs 3:5–6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”

So here’s the question—
Is God your daily driver, or just your spare tire?
Don’t wait for a breakdown to discover what daily trust could have prevented.

A life that runs on self will always run flat—but a heart that trusts God daily will never be stranded. 🚗✨
