GREAT AS HE IS
Few images show God’s kindness more tenderly than when He is described as stooping down from His throne, bending from heaven to take notice of human needs and human sorrows. We love Him who, before destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, first “came down to see” their sin. We adore Him who bends His ear from the heights of glory to listen to the faint cry of a dying sinner longing to be reconciled.
How can we not love the God who numbers the very hairs of our head, who charts our path, and orders our steps? This truth touches our hearts even more when we realize He not only cares for our daily needs but also for our deepest spiritual concerns. Though there is infinite distance between the Creator and His creatures, love forms a living link between us and Him.
When you shed a tear, remember that God sees it. “As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him.” Your sigh moves His heart, your whisper reaches His ear, your prayer can hold back His hand, your faith can move His arm. Never imagine that God sits far off, unmoved by your struggles. However poor and needy you may be, know this: the Lord thinks about you. “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”
