Welcome to the Did You Know? Series on GospelBellsRadio. Did You Know that the world is filled with “isms”—systems of belief that influence how people think and live, and that many of them contradict the truth of God’s Word?
Here are 10 popular “isms” that are contrary to the Bible:

1. Atheism: Atheism denies the existence of God. Psalm 14:1 directly condemns atheism: “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” The Bible insists that creation itself testifies to God’s reality (Romans 1:20).
2. Materialism: Materialism places possessions and wealth above God. Jesus warns against this mindset in Mark 8:36: “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” True riches are found in Christ, not in earthly things.
3. Hedonism: Hedonism claims that the pursuit of pleasure is life’s highest good. But Scripture redirects us to holiness: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16). Pleasure without God leaves emptiness; joy in Christ brings life eternal.
4. Relativism: Relativism argues that truth is subjective and varies by perspective. The Bible counters this with the words of Jesus: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6).
5. Humanism: Humanism puts man, not God, at the center of the universe. Paul shatters this illusion in Romans 11:36: “For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever!” God, not man, is the ultimate measure of life.

7. Secularism: Secularism tries to push God out of public life. Yet Proverbs 3:6 teaches the opposite: “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” God cannot be confined to private spaces; He rules over all.
8. Narcissism: Narcissism glorifies self above others. But Philippians 2:3–4 calls us to humility: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” The Bible esteems service, not self-centeredness.
9. Paganism: Paganism worships idols and false gods instead of the true God. Yet Exodus 20:3 makes God’s command clear: “You shall have no other gods before me.” All idols fail; only the Lord endures.
10. Fatalism: Fatalism teaches that life is determined by impersonal fate, leaving no room for hope or divine guidance. The Bible instead affirms God’s loving sovereignty: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

✅ These “isms” may sound wise in human philosophy, but they crumble before God’s eternal truth. As Romans 12:2 reminds us: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
