A Catch-22 is a difficult situation where the problem cannot be solved because the solution itself is blocked by the problem. It’s a trap of contradictions—like being told you can’t get a job without experience, but you can’t get experience without a job.
Life often presents us with Catch-22 moments. But here’s the comfort: God is never trapped by contradictions. In 2 Corinthians 4:8–9, Paul writes, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” What feels like a deadlock to us is never a deadlock to God.
Think also of the greatest seeming Catch-22 in history: humanity, guilty of sin, cannot save itself, yet only a perfect human can atone. How could this be resolved? The answer was Christ. Galatians 4:4 says, “But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law.” In Jesus, God shattered the deadlock. Where sin bound us, grace set us free.
So when you face your own Catch-22 moments, remember: with man it may be impossible, but with God all things are possible.
