Welcome to Word of the Day on GospelBells Radio. Today, the word under the spotlight is, “Edify.”

To edify means to build up, strengthen, or instruct—especially in a moral, spiritual, or faith-filled way. It’s not just giving advice; it’s nurturing growth in Christ.
In Scripture, believers are urged to edify one another. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:11: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” And in Ephesians 4:29, we are commanded: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” To edify is to be deliberate about using our words and actions to strengthen another person’s walk with God.
Think about how powerful this is: the opposite of tearing down is building up. The opposite of discouragement is edification. Every time we share kindness, speak truth, or point someone back to Christ, we are edifying them. And in doing so, we mirror the love of God, who continually builds us up by His Word and Spirit.
