WHY REJOICE?
Christian, be glad in heart—but make sure your joy springs from the Lord Himself. You have endless reasons to rejoice in your God. Like David, you can sing, “God, my exceeding joy.”
Rejoice that the Lord reigns, that Jehovah is King and rules over all! Every attribute of God is a fresh ray in the sunlight of our gladness:
- His wisdom gives us joy, because we know our own folly.
- His power comforts us, for we feel our weakness.
- His eternity reassures us, for we wither like grass.
- His unchanging nature steadies us, for we change daily.
- His overflowing grace delights us, for it is ours to cleanse, keep, sanctify, and perfect us, until it brings us to glory.
This gladness in God is like a mighty river. We have only tasted its sweetness at the shore, but its depths are unfathomable, and its current carries ever-greater joy.
