“He shall not be afraid of evil tidings.” —Psalm 112:7

DON’T BE AFRAID

Christian, you should not fear the arrival of bad news. If you allow yourself to be distressed by it, how are you any different from those who do not know God? Others have no refuge to run to; they have never experienced His faithfulness as you have. It is no wonder if they are crushed with fear—but you claim to belong to a different kingdom. You have been born again to a living hope, and your heart is set on heaven, not earth. If you are just as shaken as the world, then what evidence is there of the grace you profess to have received? Where is the strength of the new nature you say is yours?

If fear overtakes you, you will be tempted to fall into the same sins that are common to unbelievers in times of trial. When the ungodly hear bad news, they rebel against God, grumble, and accuse Him of being harsh. Will you do the same? Will you provoke the Lord as they do?

In addition, unbelievers often resort to wrong or desperate measures when pressed by trouble. If you give way to fear, you will be tempted to do likewise. A better way is to follow Moses at the Red Sea: “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” Trust in Him, and wait patiently for His deliverance.

If you allow your heart to be shaken, you will lose the calmness that strengthens you for duty and steadies you in adversity. How can you glorify God if you act like a coward? God’s people have often lifted songs of praise even in the fire. Will your doubts and despair, as if you had no Helper, magnify the Most High? Surely not.

So take courage. Rest in full confidence on the faithfulness of your covenant-keeping God. Hear again the words of Jesus: “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

✨ Reflection Takeaway:
Faith shines brightest in dark times. Bad news may shake the world, but those who trust in the Lord can stand firm, unafraid, and bring glory to Him by their calm confidence.
