PLACE THE CASE BEFORE HIM

It’s fascinating to get this little glimpse into the home of the apostle Peter. We immediately see that family responsibilities and household cares are not obstacles to faithful ministry. In fact, they can provide a unique opportunity to personally witness the Lord’s gracious work in our own families—and this often teaches the servant of Christ lessons that no other training can give.

Some may frown upon marriage, but true Christianity and family life fit beautifully together. Peter’s home was likely just a poor fisherman’s cottage, yet the Lord of Glory entered it, stayed in it, and performed a miracle there. If you’re reading this in a humble home today, let that truth encourage you: Jesus gladly visits small houses. God is more often found in cottages than in palaces. Even now, the Lord Jesus is looking around your room and waiting to show you His grace.

In Peter’s house, sickness had entered. His mother-in-law lay flat with a severe fever. As soon as Jesus arrived, they immediately told Him about the situation, and He went straight to her bedside.

Do you have sickness in your home this morning? Remember that Jesus is the best physician—go to Him at once and tell Him everything. Place the case before Him immediately. If it concerns one of His people, then it is no small matter in His eyes. Notice how quickly the Savior healed Peter’s mother-in-law: no one can heal as He does.

Now, it’s true—we cannot be certain that the Lord will always remove every illness from those we love. But we can be confident that prayer for the sick is more likely to bring healing than anything else. And if healing doesn’t come, then we must humbly accept the will of the One who holds both life and death in His hands.

The tender heart of Jesus is always ready to hear our burdens. Let us pour them out into His patient, listening ear.
