Do These Questions Bother You?

Most times, anxieties about tomorrow consume our thoughts and sometimes, they paralyse us.

Do you sometimes worry about what will happen tomorrow, next week, next month, next year?

Most times, anxieties about tomorrow consume our thoughts and sometimes, they paralyse us. What will our future be? What will the future of our children be? Will we be able to meet financial obligations? Will our health hold up? Will family squabbles be resolved? Will our prayers be answered? Will our projects succeed? Will our friends prove reliable? What will our future be? And sometimes, how long are we going to live?

When these thoughts fill our hearts, o that we will be reminded of who our God is: the One who knows the end from the beginning, the One whose purpose, whose will, will stand. (Is. 46:10.)

Yes, when the fear of the unknown tomorrow paralyses us, o that we will be reminded of God’s assurance in Jer. 29:11 – “I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

When needs and obligations seem to overwhelm, o that we will be led to Phil 4:19 where the apostle assures all who trust in Jesus that God will meet all their needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Indeed, in times of looming trouble and fear, o that we will hear the words of our Christ in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

How sweet to hold a newborn baby
And feel the pride and joy He gives
But greater still the calm assurance
This child can face uncertain day, because He lives

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives, all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living, just because He lives

Dear sister, dear brother, you did not bring yourself this far; God did. You cannot take yourself to the next minute or the next hour or to next month or next year; only God can. Commit your life anew to Him who has conquered life and death. Stop worrying about uncertain days. Instead, start seeking Him who controls the past, the present and the future. Seek to know Him more, seek to please Him more, spend time with Him in prayer and Bible study and you know what? Those uncertain days will break with blessings on your head.

Let us pray.

O Lord God Almighty, please calm our fears and silence all anxious thoughts in our hearts. Like the Psalmist, teach us, o Lord to say: whenever I am afraid, I will trust in God. And whenever we turn to You, let your peace which passes all understanding guard our hearts and minds. In Jesus name, Amen.
