IN IT TOGETHER

His loving heart feels your deepest woe and bears a part in all your sorrows. Tap play to listen.

At the mention of the name of Jesus, What are you reminded of? I hope you are reminded of a Savior’s love; I hope you are reminded of the Saviour who died to set you free; and I hope the name of Jesus tells you of the wonder-working power in the blood, the blood by which we obtain forgiveness for our sins. And I’m sure all pilgrims are eternally grateful for those blessings.

But, there’s more! In addition to those blessings, this hymn says the name of Jesus tells of One whose loving heart can feel my deepest woes; One who in each sorrow bears a part that none can bear below.

I do hope the name of Jesus reminds you of such a One. Because that means a lot. It means the world to know that whatever the fears, whatever the heart ache, whatever the sadness, whatever the trouble, whatever the despair, whatever the gloom, whatever the anxiety, whatever the affliction, whatever the pain, whatever agony, whatever woe, no matter how deep, Jesus can feel it. And what’s more, He even bears a part of it. That’s how loving He is. That is how caring He is. And that is why, saints, all through the ages, have expressed their undying love, saying:
O how I love Jesus,
O how I love Jesus,
O how I love Jesus,
Because He first loved me!

You see, the name of Jesus is to the Christian pilgrim the name of a Joint Venturer, the name of a co-traveller, the name of a partner, a Joint Venturer who ensures that we do not bear the woes of life alone. As the Lord said to Joshua, so He says to you: Have I not commanded you? Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Yes, your joint venturer who feels your every woe, who bears a part in all your sorrows, is with you.

Yes. We should be reminded of the counsel of Moses to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 31:6: “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them. For it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsakeyou.” Dear Pilgrim, He will not leave you, He will not forsake you. He feels your deepest woe, He bears a part in all your sorrows.

Let your Joint Venturer know of your illnesses: He has a perfect understanding of your body, and He who healed various diseases in Luke 4:40 is willing and able to heal. When you are overtaken by sin and the guilt of sin, do not hide from your Joint Venturer: He who shed His blood as an atonement for you, He will not hesitate to forgive and cleanse and restore. Just confess and repent.

When doubts fill your heart. Tell your Joint Venturer about your doubts: He was showed Himself to Thomas will speak to you and strengthen your faith.

When you feel tired and discouraged, lean on your Joint Venturer: Nothing can separate you from His love.

When the burdens of life become too heavy, heed the counsel of apostle Peter in 2 Peter 2:7 and cast all your cares upon your Joint Venturer, our Lord Jesus Christ. Indeed, when all others forsake you, He whose love is deeper and more constant than the love of a mother will never forsake you; your Joint Venturer who has inscribed you on the palm of His hand, will never forsake you.(Is. 49:16).

So, let those who have not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour come to Him today. He will not only cleanse you of all sins, He will also be your Joint Venturer holding your hand through all the changing scenes of life. And let all pilgrims who have known Him celebrate Him as the Joint Venturer, the One whose loving heart can feel my deepest woes; One who in each sorrow bears a part that none can bear below.

O how I love Jesus,
O how I love Jesus,
O how I love Jesus,
Because He first loved me!

May the Holy Spirit quicken your heart to cast all your cares, worries, sorrows and burdens on Jesus Christ and, having done so, may the peace which passes all understanding fill your heart and mind in Jesus name.
