Dear Christian pilgrim, are there scary clouds forming ahead? Are there high mountains or your path? Is your path presently dark? Is the work ahead much? Here is what the Holy Spirit is saying to you today: “All is well. All is well.”

And you may ask ‘hey, how would you know that all is well?’ Here’s the answer: All is well because your Lord, your Lord God Almighty has pledged in Is. 43 saying, “when you pass through the waters, I will be with you and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, it will not set you ablaze. Since you are precious and honored in my sight and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life. Do not be afraid for I am with you.”

That’s your Lord’s pledge from Is. 43. So,

Come, come, ye Saints, no toil nor labor fear;

But with joy wend your way.

Though hard to you this journey may appear,

Grace shall be as your day.

’Tis better far for us to strive

Our useless cares from us to drive;

Do this, and joy your hearts will swell—

All is well! All is well!

And,

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard?

’Tis not so; all is right.

Why should we think to earn a great reward

If we now shun the fight?

Gird up your loins; fresh courage take.

Our God will never us forsake;

And soon we’ll have this tale to tell—

All is well! All is well!

Dear pilgrim, remember the blessing that the Lord bestowed on His people from the mouth of Moses in Deuteronomy 33? Remember that? That same blessing, He is bestowing on you right now. Recall it?

The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze,
    and your strength will equal your days.

“There is no one like the God of Jeshurun,
    who rides across the heavens to help you
    and on the clouds in his majesty.
The eternal God is your refuge,
    and underneath are the everlasting arms.
He will drive out your enemies before you,
    saying, ‘Destroy them!’

“Your strength will equal your days” meaning whatever your days might bring, your strength, your God-given strength will rise to the occasion. So,

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard?

’Tis not so; all is right.

Why should we think to earn a great reward

If we now shun the fight?

Gird up your loins; fresh courage take.

Our God will never us forsake;

And soon we’ll have this tale to tell—

All is well! All is well!

Let us pray.

May the assurance of God’s abiding presence grant you the strength and courage to confront and overcome. In Jesus name. Amen.
