Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

Dear Christian pilgrim, have you noticed from the gospel accounts that the instruction from Jesus to those in difficulty often stood in stark contrast to conventional wisdom and rational thought.

He told Peter and his fishing party to launch out again after they had laboured hard all night; He told the relatives and friends of Lazarus to remove the stone covering the grave of a man who was already stinking; He told His disciples to collect the five loves and two fish when the need arose to feed five thousand people; and He told His followers to turn the other cheek when slapped.

Yes, the instruction from Jesus often stood in stark contrast to conventional wisdom and rational thought. But all those who obeyed Him, all those who took Him at His Word experienced the amazing blessings of His gracious intervention.

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,

Just to take Him at His Word

Just to rest upon His promise,

Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!

How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er

Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!

Oh, for grace to trust Him more

Thus saith the Lord to you and me today: “do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear …but seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Does this sound like the solution to your pressing problems today?

Again, thus saith the Lord to you and me today:  “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Does this sound like the solution to your pressing problems today?

Dear Christian pilgrim, do not ignore your Lord’s admonition, do not discount it, do not label it unrealistic,  but take Him at His word. Take Him at His word.

See, if you take Him at His word and instead of worrying or being anxious, you choose to serve God, to project His righteousness, to pray and thank Him, you will find that the peace of God which passes all understanding will envelope your heart and mind through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,

Just to take Him at His Word

Just to rest upon His promise,

Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!

How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er

Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!

Oh, for grace to trust Him more.
