NONE CAN EVER ASK TOO MUCH – Pilgrim’s Joy Devotional – October 11, 2022

Listen or read below (You can do both, too!)

Good morning, dear Christian pilgrim:

You’ve prayed many times before. But even the longstanding Christian often needs to be reminded of the huge opportunity presented at the hour of prayer.

Not many of us believe that we are daily presented with the Solomonic moment when God, the King invited a king, Solomon, saying, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!” The King has issued the same invitation to you as well.

Thou art coming to a King,

Large petitions with thee bring,

For His grace and power are such

None can ever ask too much. – John Newton

Are you one of those who believe that it was Solomon’s huge and generous sacrifice that moved God to invite him to ask? Then be reminded that the sacrifice greater, far greater than Solomon’s – the sacrifice of God’s own son – has been given on your behalf.

Or are you one of those who believe that it was the Lord’s faithfulness to his covenant with David, that moved Him to invite Solomon to ask? Then be reminded that He has sworn by Himself to you and all in the household of faith, saying, “They will be my people and I will be their God.”

When you call to God in prayer in the name of Jesus, you are standing, not before a king, but before the King! You can never ask too much!

You can never ask too much because He invited you ask; you can never ask too much because with God, nothing will be impossible; you can never ask too much because if the fathers and mothers of this world know how to give good gifts to their children, how much more will your Father in heaven, the King of kings, give good gifts to those who ask him; you can never ask too much because He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Hear His invitation today, and ask Him for great things: you are before the King. If you’ve asked before, ask again. If you’ve asked again and again, keep asking. Don’t  stop and don’t cut back on your requests. The King may not be minded to make His answer manifest right now, but His greatness should remind you that He can, and His record of lovingkindness should assure you that He will!

Thou art coming to a King,

Large petitions with thee bring,

For His grace and power are such

None can ever ask too much. – John Newton

Let us pray.

May doubts, fears and the harsh realities of your present circumstances never diminish your faith in the power and grace of God to work wonders in your life. In Jesus name, Amen!
