God’s promises were never meant to be set aside like useless paper. He intends them to be used. God’s gold is not hoarded like a miser’s treasure; it is minted to be spent. Nothing delights the Lord more than seeing His promises actively trusted and pleaded. He loves it when His children come before Him and say, “Lord, do as You have said.”
We glorify God when we rely on His promises. Do you think God will be any poorer by giving you the riches He has promised? Do you imagine He will be any less holy by making you holy, or any less pure by cleansing you from sin? He Himself has said, “Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Faith does not admire a promise from a distance or question whether it is true. True faith takes the promise straight to the throne of grace and pleads, “Lord, here is what You have promised—do as You have said.” And the Lord answers, “Be it to you according to your faith.”
When a believer holds a promise but never brings it to God, he dishonors Him. But when he runs to God and says, “Lord, I have nothing to plead except this—You have said it,” his request will be granted. Our heavenly Banker delights in honoring His own promises. Never allow a promise to lie unused. Draw it out boldly and use it with holy confidence.
Do not think that God is bothered when you remind Him of His promises. He welcomes the earnest cries of needy hearts. It is His joy to give. He is more willing to hear than we are to ask. The sun never grows tired of shining, and the fountain never grows weary of flowing. It is God’s very nature to keep His word. Therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace with this prayer on your lips and in your heart: “Lord, do as You have said.”
