“You are Christ’s.” You belong to Him by the Father’s gift, for the Father gave you to the Son. You are His by costly purchase, for He paid the full price for your redemption with His own blood. You are His by dedication, for you have willingly given yourself to Him. You are His by relationship, for you bear His name and are made His brethren and joint heirs.
Therefore, live in such a way that the world can plainly see that you are the servant, the friend, the bride of Jesus. When you are tempted to sin, answer firmly, “I cannot do this great evil, for I belong to Christ.” Eternal principles restrain the friend of Christ from wrongdoing. When riches tempt you through sin, say again, “I am Christ’s,” and refuse to touch them. When you face danger or difficulty, stand firm in the evil day, remembering that you belong to Him.
Are you placed among those who are idle and doing nothing? Rise up and work with all your strength. When weariness comes and you are tempted to slow down, say, “No, I cannot stop, for I am Christ’s.” If you had not been purchased by blood, you might lie down like Issachar between burdens—but you are Christ’s, and you must not grow sluggish. When pleasure’s seductive song tries to draw you away from what is right, answer, “Your music has no power over me; I am Christ’s.” When the cause of God calls you, give both yourself and what you have, for you belong to Him.
Never contradict your profession. Let your conduct be truly Christian, your speech marked by the spirit of Christ, and your life so filled with heaven’s fragrance that all who see you will know you belong to the Savior—recognizing in you His love and the holiness of His character. Long ago, “I am a Roman!” was a reason to live uprightly. How much more should this be your reason for holiness: “I am Christ’s!”
